Have you ever had a moment when you felt like things were never going to work out for you, because in this moment that you are in right now, everything is falling apart? You know what I mean, right? Remember that time when you and your boyfriend broke up; or the time when your boss skipped you over for the promotion and gave it to someone else that you were training to do the job in the first place? Or maybe your story is becoming a Mom without your babies father in the picture; or getting laid off from your job; or one of your family members passing away. Whatever your story is, when life comes to test you, things get HARD!!!!
Girl, I don’t want you to think that you’re going through these things just because. In all honesty, you are going through these things, because God is strengthening you for what’s to come. Right now we are dealing with one of the biggest things that anyone has faced in this lifetime – Coronavirus or Covid -19. This virus is a strain of a couple of viruses that has no cure or vaccination to help control it. People are literally dropping like flies and are being put in body bags that are stacked up waiting to be handled properly – but the funeral homes are backed up. Not to mention, the impact on the economy. Not only are people at risk for their health, but the other very real thing is that people are losing employment. There was the largest amount of unemployment applications filed since the last recession, just last week. People are LITERALLY at risk of loss of wages completely and we all know that the impact on that is shelter and food. Education has also taken a hit, and kids are out of school indefinitely. They say until May 1st, but we don’t know when this virus will be controlled. As of know the death toll just keeps rising. And sis, I’m praying for you, if this is you!
You will get through this!
The troubles that we go through all have the same premise: Things, people, and tests are here for a season to teach you something that you need to learn. When we face these things, it is the ultimate test of our resiliency. Resiliency is defined as, the ability to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions; able to recoil or spring back into shape after bending, stretching or being compressed. Whenever I find myself in these situations where life seems to be testing my resiliency there are 3 things that I do to recover quickly.
- Re-evaluate what’s important. With the Covid-19 spreading and keeping us sheltered in place, I have re-evaluated what’s most important. Is it my family, my job, my health? When things are going smooth, we take these things for granted as if it will always be there. But as we can see now, all of it can be taken away in the blink of an eye. Take a moment to look at the things that you have given importance to and ask yourself, “Does it truly matter?”
- Get focused. Don’t take this lightly. Being sheltered in place does not – and I repeat, does NOT, mean that you can just Netflix and Chill!!! C’mon sis, you have to be getting focused on how you are going to make your comeback. And I don’t mean a Gucci purse and a new weave. I mean you need to literally be thinking about how you can go back to school, lose those 20 pounds, start that business, get that license. Get focused and get to werk!!
- Pray. I cannot stress the importance of prayer enough. The Bible tells us that we should, “Pray without ceasing!” That means that we should literally pray at all times. When you are in a situation that looks to have no end in sight, go to a quiet place in prayer! You should literally be setting aside time for you and God to talk. He will always tell you what your next move should be, if you ask.
You may be in a moment in your life where something is bending you, stretching you, or it is compressing you into a corner; be rest assured that this time is strengthening you for the blessings that are going to be available to you when you come out of it. Whether your situation involves your job, your family, your friends, or your health – there is something that you will gain. But you have to re-evaluate what’s important, get focused and pray! You were made for a time like this! You have resiliency running in your veins!
